BOURNEMOUTH CORPORATION
 |
Bournemouth Corporation has operated it's
own transport system since the beginning of the century.
They operated trams between 1902 and 1936, with trolley buses appearing
from 1933. By April 1936 trolley buses had taken over from the trams,
and in the late 40s Bournemouth had one of the finest trolley bus
networks in the country.
With the rising costs of electricity and the high costs involved in
extending the services, the motor bus was seen as the only way forward.
The early motor buses were petrol engined, with the first diesel engine
bus, a Guy double deck vehicle, being used during the second world war.
