CHARLIES CARS

Most recent revision Friday August 10, 2007

'Charlies Cars' was founded by Charles.J.Pounds, who used to be employed as a coach driver for Thomas Elliot's 'Royal Blue' coach company in the 1880's.
In 1919, after the first world war, he decided to set up his own coach company.

The original company was taken over by Shamrock & Rambler in 1963. This was operated as a subsidiary company until 1972.

With the de-regulation of bus services in the late 70s, early 1980s, lots of small operators started up bus companies, The Bournemouth & Poole area saw the resurection of the 'Charlies Cars' name, with a fleet of mini-buses operating various services throughout the area.
Rather than using numbers for the various routes, letters were used instead.
